BENEFITS

PROGRAM

(K-12th Grades)

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Education Division administers an Educational Benefits Program that assists Cow Creek Tribal members with additional educational endeavors or activities.


Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Educational Summer Camps
  • Native American Sponsored Workshops/fieldtrips
  • other requests that are of an educational nature
  • *Funding will be based on individual request and budget of the program.


The funding program limits are as follows:

  • $500/Calendar Year 
  • Please note: funding year does not match academic year
  • Applications & Reimbursement requests are due December 20th

The following documents must be submitted to receive reimbursement for parental costs:

  • Completed Parental Cost Reimbursement Form (for each request)
  • Official proof of payment for reimbursement for approved expenditures (contact for approval questions)
  • Please note a change in the Request for Services Form. There will no longer be two different funds.

YOUTH

EDUCATION (ages 3-18)

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Education Division administers a Youth Education Program that provides funding to Cow Creek Tribal members that incur parental costs associated with their child’s education.


The funding program limits are as follows:

  • $275/Calendar Year parental costs to include School Supplies
  • Note: this does not align with a typical school year.
  • Reimbursement will be for school/educational related items


The following documents must be submitted to receive reimbursement for parental costs:

  • Completed Youth Education Program application (once per calendar year)
  • Completed Parental Cost Reimbursement Form (for each request)
  • Official proof of payment for reimbursement for approved expenditures (contact for approval questions)
  • Please note a change in the Request for Services Form. There will no longer be two different funds. Funds are available in the amount of $275 and will include any School Supplies.

EDUCATION

Higher Education

The Purpose of this program is to provide funding to Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Tribal members pursuing one of the following (from an accredited College or University):

  • Vocational Degree or Certificate
  • Associate Degree
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Graduate Degree

All educational institutions are subject to review and approval by the Education Programs Manager prior to providing funding for Tribal member participation.

**This program falls under the Indian General Welfare Act and is NOT a taxable benefit. You will NOT need to report this on your federal or state income taxes.

The award amount is based on financial need identified in the financial aid award letter from the college or University. A recipient who has utilized the Higher Education Program funding to obtain a Vocational degree or certificate, Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree is not eligible to reapply for funding for a second degree of the same level.

Book Reimbursement

The Purpose of this program is to provide partial reimbursement of books to Cow Creek Band ofUmpqua Tribe of Indians Tribal members pursuing a Vocational Degree or Certificate, Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate Degree from an accredited college or University. Books must be required by instructional institution for currently enrolled courses. All educational institutions are subject to review and approval by the Education Programs Manager prior to providing funding for Tribal member participation.

Lifetime Learning

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Education Division administers a Lifetime Learning Program that provides funding to Cow Creek Tribal members that would like to take classes to enhance their lives. This benefit is for tribal members 18 years and older.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • art
  • music
  • photography
  • dance
  • physical conditioning
  • information technology
  • cooking
  • and cultural classes

as well as other life enhancing opportunities

Occupational Certificate

The Purpose of this program is to provide funding to Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Tribal members pursuing an Occupational Certificate. Certificates are non-degree awards for completing an educational program of study. All educational facilities are subject to review and approval by the Education Program Manager prior to providing funding for Tribal member participation.

College Computer

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Education Division administers a College Computer Program that provides up to $500 towards the purchase of a computer, laptop to Cow Creek Tribal members pursuing a Certification, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Graduate Degree on a full-time basis from a regionally accredited Title IV institution.

All educational institutions are subject to review and approval by the Education Director prior to approval for the program. Eligible applicants must still have at least 3 terms or 2 semesters remaining prior to completing their degree.

This program falls under the Indian General Welfare Act and is NOT a taxable benefit. You will NOT need to report this on your federal or state income taxes.

Short Term Training

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Education Division administers a Short-Term

Training Program that provides funding to Cow Creek Tribal members that would like to take a short term training program that is a non-credit/ non-transferable program. This program also allows Tribal members to obtain training or licensure for their careers.

**A high school diploma or GED is not necessary.

Adult Education

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Education Division administers an Adult Education Program that provides funding to Cow Creek Tribal members that would like to take any of the following:

  • driver’s education course
  • high school completion courses
  • GED preparation classes

assistance with GED testing fees
